Is the Pain I'm Suffering Days After My Car Accident Caused by the Accident

After a car accident, you may walk away, experiencing little pain, and count yourself lucky. However, days later, you may experience pain or other symptoms. Is it possible that these symptoms are related to injuries caused by the car accident? It’s very likely that they are. Due to the adrenaline experienced during a car accident, sometimes you don’t experience pain from your injuries immediately. In addition, some injuries don’t present with pain until later.

This is why you should always seek a medical evaluation after a car accident. Ideally, you want to see a doctor immediately after an accident, even if you experience no obvious symptoms. Even if you get a clean bill of health, however, here are some delayed symptoms to watch out for.

Headache or Dizziness

A concussion, blood clot, neck injury, or whiplash, can all result in delayed symptoms such as a headache or dizziness. Some of these injuries can be serious, which is why you should always go back to the doctor if you begin experiencing a headache. Ignoring these symptoms can be fatal, especially if you have a traumatic brain injury.

Back Pain

Experiencing back pain days after the accident could mean that you have suffered a herniated disc, soft tissue injury, or whiplash. If you have numbing and tingling as well as pain, you could have experienced a pinched nerve. If left untreated, these conditions can lead to problems with mobility and chronic pain, so be sure to go to the doctor.

Neck or Shoulder Pain

Neck or shoulder pain can be signs of a herniated disc or other spinal injuries. It is also a common symptom of whiplash, which is a condition that doesn’t usually present itself immediately. Treatment is necessary.

Abdominal Pain

If you experience abdominal pain days after an accident, it is important to see a doctor immediately as it can be a sign of internal bleeding. Bruising is also a symptom of this condition, which can be deadly if left untreated.
